No Child Without a Christmas Campaign

We were very happy with our attendance at our Inaugural Tree Service in at the Merlin Conservation Area on Sunday despite the rainy weather. Great weather for trees, but not for standing outside! Thanks to Stan Caveney and Rev. Jim Haupt for leading the Service.

Merlin District High School

Pictured here is a photo of the original Merlin District High School - site of the new McKinlay Memorial Forest at the Merlin Conservation Area - which officially opened in 1950. Later there was an extension on the east end (right side) and in the rear. The school closed in 1980. Thanks to Joy King and Jack Peltier for the photo.

To the Residents of the Merlin area:

As most of you may have learned by now, on September 30th, 2014, Richard Smith after 15 years of service in Merlin has closed Secord and Smith Funeral Home Ltd. When a business that has been an integral part of a community for so long closes, I can only try to understand the effect this news has on the community.

We at McKinlay Funeral Homes, feel very complimented to have been chosen by Richard to assist him with the responsibilities of winding up his business. Richard has trusted us to be the custodians of the Funeral Home's records that date back to 1922. We have also assisted him by purchasing his inventory and some of the funeral home equipment. Jointly, we have mailed information letters to people who have prepaid for their funeral service. In these letters, information has been included outlining the options that are available to them to assist them in directing Richard on how to fulfil their intentions and protect their funds.

This letter is our opportunity to introduce ourselves to you. We are a locally owned firm and are very proud of our record of exceptional service to the families we have served over the years. The confidence families place in us is a trust we take very seriously. My nephew, Nathan and I are both long term residents of Chatham-Kent, and are committed to excellence in our profession. I am pleased to advise you that Nathan, and I along with our dedicated staff, possess a broad range of experience. This diversity will assure you of an ongoing continuity of service over the years to come for you, your family and your community.

All of us at McKinlay Funeral Homes encourage you to accept our invitation to visit our barrier free locations in Blenheim and Chatham to view our spacious facilities, survey our large parking areas and meet our caring, helpful team of professionals. We welcome you to share any concerns you may have about the move with us or inquire about our wide range of services we offer including onsite receptions.

Although there no longer is a Funeral Home in the Village of Merlin, our pledge to you, is to continue to make available information required from the Funeral Home records and to make you as welcome and comfortable as we serve you in our locations.
