Obituary of James Joseph Newman

Newman, James Joseph – Jim (also, J.J., Jimborina or Newman), 67 years old of Duart, made his last haul on July 19, 2017, wife, Jean (Devereux) of 44 years, by his side. Jim was born in St. Thomas to the late George and Lila (Wallis) Newman and he grew up in Rodney, along with brother, Fred.

Jim was most comfortable behind the wheel (starting early with some teenage drag racing) and some of his fondest memories include hauling Lear jet wings, watermelons and taking his wife, daughter Kristen and son, Patrick, on trucking adventures during his 50 year career. An early riser, Jim was always among the first to purchase a newspaper to pore over later and to seek out local news having coffee or breakfast at one of his favorite establishments.

Jim’s daughter, Kristen, and spouse, Wil Devine, of Sudbury will sorely miss Jim’s spontaneous flea market adventures patiently tolerated by Patrick and, wife, Tanya Newman of Petawawa. Gampie/Buggah/Grandpa Jim will be missed by grandchildren, Bryson and Bennett Devine and Presley Newman.

Jim was the beloved younger brother of Fred and wife, Ruth Newman of London and friend and brother-in-law of Peter Devereux (Donna) of Ridgetown, Paul (Karen) Devereux of Dresden, Mary and Bridget Devereux of Ridgetown, and late brother-in-law, John Devereux. Uncle Jim will be missed by many nieces and their families and Tater “White Fang” the dog.

Memorial visitation will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main St. E., Ridgetown, on Saturday July 22, 2017 from 6-9 pm. The Memorial Service for Jim will be held at McKinlay Funeral Home on Sunday July 23 at 1 pm with a reception following at the Highgate Legion. A private family burial will be held in the Duart Cemetery.
