Obituary of Timothy Lawrence 'Laurie' Dowthwaite

DOWTHWAITE: Timothy Lawrence "Laurie" -

A resident of Ridgetown, and formerly of Barrie, Laurie Dowthwaite passed away at Windsor Regional Hospital - Ouellette Campus on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the age of 81.

Born in Belleville, Laurie was the son of the late James "Jimmy" and Doris (Winterbottom) Dowthwaite.

Beloved husband of 49 years to Janice Dowthwaite (nee Johns).

Loving father of James Dowthwaite of Calgary.

Predeceased by his brother Jon Dowthwaite (late Eleanor).

Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

In his youth, Laurie graduated from the Boys Scouts to the Sea Cadets, where he had a memorable trip to Europe. Before joining the OPP, Laurie had worked at General Electric for several years in which time he served on the OPP Auxiliary. Laurie retired as a Senior Constable and the Community Service Officer with the OPP after 23 years of service. He was the first to be recognized as the "Police Officer of the Year" in 1991.

Laurie had been active in both the Trinity Anglican Church in Barrie and the Church of the Advent in Ridgetown throughout the years. After his retirement, he became a Lay Reader and served in that position for several years. Laurie was a member and Past Vice President of Kiwanis Club of Ridgetown and the Past President of the Optimist Club.

Laurie enjoyed travelling and going to the theatre with Janice. He loved going to the "office" at Tim Horton's and discussing all of the world's problems with his cronies.

Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Advent, 20 Church Street South, Ridgetown at 11:00 am on Monday with Rev. Gary Parker and Rev. Terry McNear officiating. Cremation has taken place with a private family interment to be held at Barrie Union Cemetery at a later date.
