VANDESOMPEL: Marlene Janette (nee Evans) -

A resident of Chatham, Marlene VandeSompel passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the age of 81.

Born in London, Marlene was the daughter of the late Jack and Elsie (Gordon) Evans.

Beloved wife of 61 years to Arceen "Junior" VandeSompel.

Cherished mother of David VandeSompel (Heather) of Chatham, Denice Leitenberger (Dan) of Chatham, Michael VandeSompel (Stacey) of Toronto and the late Brian VandeSompel (1999).

Proud Grandma of Tara Wellman, Kyle Leitenberger (Heather) , Adam Leitenberger (Rebecca), Madison VandeSompel, Ethan VandeSompel and Nicholas VandeSompel.

Dear sister to Gary Evans (Kathy) of Chatham and her late infant twin sister Darlene. Also missed by many friends, extended family and their dog Rascal.

Marlene was a talented gardener and loved to attend card parties with her friends.

Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm.

A Celebration of Marlene's Life will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 29 2018. Cremation to follow with a private family interment to be held at a later date.

Donations made in memory of Marlene to the Friends of the New Animal Shelter would be appreciated.
