Johns, Evelyn May (nee Dunn)

Peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Evelyn May Johns passed away on Friday, July 19 2019 in her 94th year.

Born in Chatham on March 9, 1925, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Arthur & Ethel (nee Walker) Dunn.

Loving wife of the late Joseph L. Johns (2015).

Much loved mother of Al Johns (Peg) of Chatham, Rosemary Johns of Mississauga, David Johns of Surrey, B.C., Elizabeth Wade (Dan) of London, Judi Clark of Batawa, Janet Driscoll (Paul) of Mitchell and Anett Pon (Richard) of Calgary. Predeceased by her daughter, JoAnn Johns (2017) and son, Keith Johns (1995). 

Cherished grandmother of 12 and their families. 

Remembered with love by her many great-grandchildren. 

Survived by sister, Eileen Christner (the late Gordon) and predeceased by sister, Janet Wake (Gary).

Beloved aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. Also missed by many extended family and friends.

Evelyn raised nine wonderful children and dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed spending time at family gatherings and cooking large family meals. Evelyn enjoyed knitting, singing in the church choir, spending endless days at the beach at Rondeau Park and cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Women's League and volunteered extensively with her children's school over the years. Evelyn spent many years traveling and spending winters in Florida. She always had a positive outlook on life and had a unique sense of humor, despite having suffered with Dementia for a number of years. Evelyn enjoyed giving her family hugs and sharing a pot of tea.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Eden Villa for their compassionate care and support over the last 4 years. 

A Funeral Mass for Evelyn will take place on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 10:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham. Cremation to take place with a Private Family Interment at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Evelyn to the St. Vincent de Paul Children's Camp or to the Chatham-Kent Children's Treatment Centre.
