Obituary of Tom Thomson

THOMSON- Thomas Scott of St. Thomas and formerly of Chatham, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, June 19, 2020 at the age of 62. Tom is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth Thomson (nee Jackson); by his loving children Shane Thomson (Nicole Fuchs) and their daughter Sophia of Chatham, Brittany Robinson of Whitecourt, AB, Briana Robinson of Chatham, and Angela Thomson of St. Thomas; by his siblings Barbara Crawford of Chatham, Deborah Jackson of London, Tracey Jamieson of London, and Roy Thomson of BC; and by his many other family members and friends.

Tom was born in Chatham to the late Stanley and Frances Thomson. He loved his family, enjoyed hiking and was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, running his own charter out of Erieau. Tom was a Tool and Die Maker by trade and had recently received his diploma for Electronics Engineering Technician at Fanshawe. He was a volunteer with the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Kent Cloverleaf Conservation Club, an active member of the Presbyterian Church in both Chatham and Windsor, and enjoyed spending his spare moments woodworking, gardening, and travelling with wife Elizabeth in their motorhome. Tom’s last few years were a constant struggle with his health issues, but he faced them with courage, dignity and a perseverance that allowed him to enjoy his final days with his family. He will be missed and his memory treasured by all who knew him.

Cremation has taken place and a private interment of ashes will beheld in Maple Leaf Cemetery in Chatham. Arrangements entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). If desired, donations to Operation Smile Canada or the Kidney Foundation. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at McKinlay Funeral Home-Chatham on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 2:30 pm.
