Dear Family, I attended Calvin College & Seminary with Fred, and he was my Roomate for one year. We called him , "Steady Freddy"! as indicating that he was a man you could count on. There was an apartment of 4 men and another of 4 women, and after church one Sunday the men invited the women home for coffee. This was Fred & Ella's first meeting . The rest is history..... We wish you strength through this hard time of loss. Joe & Alida Reitsma

So sad to hear of this news. Pastor Fred served our congregation at Ottewell CRC. He officiated my wedding and baptized my daughter. He is fondly remembered! Ella too. Thinking of you all!

Fred Heslinga was a friend and pastoral colleague whose insight and wisdom I appreciated as we kept contact in various ways, first as neighbors in BC as we served churches next door, city wise, and then increasingly so upon our retirements. His humility invited others to be the same and his ability to laugh at himself was contagious. He was human with a sense of humor..... I'm sad.
