Sorry for your loss. I was happy to know Doug from the Barber shop, he should've been an ambassador for the Bruce Peninsula, a good man who will be missed.

Mr. Stokes was the VP during my schooling in Wheatley. I have always remembered his trademark chalkboard cartoon drawings of the hands/eyes/nose peering over a wall. My condolences to his family.

My deepest sympathy to Mr. Stokes family. He was a great teacher. Strict but always fair. He also was a fun teacher. Lots of jokes. Respected by many. He will be missed. R.I.P.

My deepest sympathy to Doug's family, my husband Ken started his teaching career in Wheatley and Doug was vice principal. They always went north in the summer for fishing but never took rods, enjoyed Doug's dry humour and he always visited when he brought his parents to Wheatley for dentist appointments. Unfortunately Ken passed away in 2021, so many of the former WAPS staff have gone, he will be missed, may he Rest in Peace.

Thoughts are with Doug’s family and friends. I first met Doug as a Vice- Principal in 1969 when he came to Wheatley. I was returning as a Grade 5 teacher after a maternity leave. He and Principal Ben Taves very capably led our staff into unknown fields as they guided us into an open concept school and a new way of team teaching. He was a excellent leader and easy to work with. He earned the respect of his staff as well as the students. His sense of humour, teaching style and thoughtfulness will always be remembered by former colleagues and students he taught.Although we have not been in contact for many years, the times spent with him ,still bring happy thoughts of fun times. May your fond memories of him be forever cherished .So sorry for your loss.
