With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Harland “Blake” Montague on March 20, 2026, at the age of 94.
Beloved husband of 58 years to Barbara Ann Montague (Tinline). Loving father of Scott Montague and Darren Montague (Angela). Cherished grandfather of Brandon Montague (Madeline) and Cailin Montague (Tyler), and proud great-grandfather of Georgia Montague and Malorie Montague.
Blake is predeceased by his parents, James Montague and Evelyn LaRue (Rabideau), and his stepfather Frank “Nip” LaRue. He is also predeceased by his siblings, Dennis Montague; Henry Montague and his wife Eileen Montague; Bernice Evans and her husband Earl Evans; Maxine Lumley and her husband Don Lumley, as well as his brother-in-law Terry Clark, and his parents-in-law, Ralph “Bill” Tinline and Ruby Tinline.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother and sister-in-law, Garry and Patricia Middlebrook, his sister-in-law Nancy Clark, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Blake’s niece, Trina Lumley, for being by Barbara and Blake’s side at the hospital, and for her compassion and presence during this difficult time.
Blake was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 28 in Chatham. He was a passionate sports fan, especially when it came to cheering on his Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Tigers. He cherished time spent at his cottage in Erieau, where he formed many lifelong friendships and created lasting memories with family and friends. An animal lover at heart, Blake found great joy in caring for many pets over the years. He especially enjoyed taking his cat, Archie, for rides on his walker and looked forward to daily visits from his beloved granddog, Bear.
Blake will be remembered for his warmth, his quiet presence, and the love he had for his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
Blake’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date, when family and friends can gather to honour the exceptional man he was.
