Obituary of Benjamin Chaffey

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of  our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Benjamin Chaffey. He passed away peacefully at the age of 74 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Friday, February 14, 2025, with family and so much love by his side. 

He was born to the late Eldon & Mary (nee Coles) Chaffey on March 28th, 1950 in Port Saunders, Newfoundland. He was the hardest working man we knew, even in retirement he always found something to do. Ben was a truck driver, and for many years his second home was the highway, with his job taking him all over Ontario and much of the United States. He worked hard, but he always found time for those he loved

Ben was married to the love of his life, Cynthia Chaffey (nee Reid) for almost 56 years, they built a life together that created his legacy - his children and grandchildren. He was the proud father of Rob Chaffey (Keitha), Dave Chaffey & Amanda Chaffey (Shane), and the beloved Papa of Cal, Raquel, Becca, Coda & Benji. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he was beyond generous to those he loved - he would give you the shirt off his back or drive all day and night for you. His laugh was infectious, and his three children inherited his dry (and at times inappropriate) sense of humour. 

In addition to his immediate family, Ben is survived by his siblings Maude Brown, Terry Chaffey, Cyril Chaffey, & Blanche Lance, who were an important part of his life. He was predeceased by his dear siblings Carrie Ryan, Mickey O'Connell, Stan Chaffey, Craig Chaffey, Anna Chaffey, Marina Chaffey & Karl Chaffey.

He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family & friends.

Our family would like to express our sincerest and eternal gratitude to the staff of the Progressive Care Unit, especially Jennifer (NP) for providing the most wonderful care.

Family to receive friends on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham from 12:30 pm until a Service of Ben's Life at 1:30 pm. A Celebration of Ben's Life will follow at the McKinlay Reception Centre. As per Ben's wishes, cremation has taken place.
