PHILLIPS: Walter Joseph -
A resident of Chatham, Walter Phillips passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at the age of 82.
Born in Renfrew, Walter was the son of the late Rita and Harold Helmer. Son-in-law to the late Veronica and James Emery.
Beloved husband of 57 years to Barbara (née Emery).
Loving and cherished father of Melissa Ann Miller and Patrick Michael Phillips (Lori).
Proud grandfather of two granddaughters Melody May Miller and Sydney Rachel Phillips.
Dear brother to the late William Phillips (Patricia), Ann Phillips, Patti Phillips and the late Gail Phillips.
Brother-in-law to Phyllis Jubenville (Richard) and Alvin Emery (Janet). Predeceased by Roger Emery (1952).
Uncle to Shelby Emery, Devon Emery (Alf and Max) and the late Ricky Jubenville.
Uncle to Susan née Phillips (Doug Wastell), Heather née Phillips (Dave Damaren), Freedom-Kai Phillips and Jeffrey Phillips.
Walter was a Constable with the Ontario Provincial Police for 30 years in the Forest, Leamington and Windsor areas. He was on the OPP Run Team, and was known to bike 23 km around the river almost every date to stay fit.
After retiring from the OPP, Walter pursued a career as a paralegal, representing clients in the Windsor, Leamington and Chatham courts for another 25 years.
Walter was a car enthusiasts and enjoyed his collection of muscle cars and motorcycles.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 6:00 - 8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Parish, 180 Wellington Street W., Chatham at 11:00am on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Cremation to follow with interment to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery at a later date.
Special thanks to Crystal for her help and support during Walter's illness and to Walter's family for their love and care.
