Obituary of Inez Lucier

Inez Lorraine Lucier (nee Johnston) September 30th, 1935 - May 31st, 2025 -

Inez passed peacefully from this world, at “almost” 90 years young, the morning of May 31st, 2025 with her loving children beside her.

Inez was married to Gerald Joseph Lucier for 61 years, and raised two crazy kids to believe in kindness and compassion for humans and animals.

Mother of Gerald Joseph (Joe) Carl Lucier and Deborah Ann Nissen and husband Jan Nissen.

Grandmother to Christopher Nissen, Timothy Nissen (Cyndy Chatten) and Carrie Nissen (and special extra granddaughters, Michelle P, Elizabeth and Skylar).

Great-Grandmother to Aleksander Nissen, Jace Nissen (Cassia), Holly Nissen, Michael Smith and Audrey Nissen, as well as “our spares” Mackenzie and Caelen Pero.

She was an amazing mom, who taught others that there was nothing impossible to achieve if you were willing to work hard.

She is the daughter of the late Joseph Arthur Johnston and Jeanette Lorraine Johnston (Jubenville).

Survived by her wonderful siblings Shirley Ann Bechard (late Gerard Bechard) and Wayne Johnston (friend Anna) and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Johnston, Barbara Johnston, Joanne Anderson, Mary Lucier and Gloria Lucier.

Predeceased by: brother Carl Johnston and his wife Norma Johnston, and brother Pete (Marvin) Johnston, as well as other in-laws, Jeanette and Raymond Bechard, Romeo Lucier, Jerome Lucier, James (Jim) Anderson.

There are an incredible amount of loved nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews, that would take an entire book to list them all.

Inez became “Mom” to so many people, including her wonderful neighbours. She loved her work at King Agro - which became Pride Seeds. After 4 retirement parties, her family said enough - we will just party once a year with Family!

At age 75, she went back to school to learn how to use a computer and spent more time online than her grand-kids!

An avid hockey fan, she collected Detroit Red Wings memorabilia that her son Joe, brought home for her.

Those who worked with Mom and knew her well, knew that other than her family - she had two passions - her gardens of flowers and animal rescue! No animal ever went hungry, and all injured animals were given sanctuary - except SNAKES!

A special thank you to Johnny Koegler and Sarah Reynolds for their care and kindness.

Our heartfelt thanks to Chatham Kent Hospice and their amazing staff as well as Maple City Retirement Residence.

Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00pm.

Donations to Inez's favourite charities in lieu of flowers, would be greatly appreciated. Rat Terrier Rescue Canada Inc. - is where Sweetie and Princess came from - Canadian Cancer Society - London Health Sciences Foundation - Chatham Kent Hospice Foundation.
