Obituary of John Edward Sherman

Sherman, John “Jack” Edward
June 5, 1936 – August 20, 2025

John Edward Sherman passed away with his wife Marion Sherman by his side at Chatham General Hospital on August 20, 2025, at the age of 89 years.  

Married for 67 years to his beloved wife, Marion Sherman, of Ridgetown, Ontario.  Jack was born on June 5, 1936, in Chatham, Ontario to the late George Edward and Mildred Sherman (Brundage).  

John spent 35 years working as a supervisor for Union Gas Company in Windsor, Ontario.  Retired now for 30 years, John and Marion split their time between their retreats, Wildwood by the Lake in Morpeth, Ontario and Rec-Veh in Alamo, Texas.  

Loving and proud father to his son George (Randy) and wife Susan Sherman of St. Augustine, Florida and his daughter Cheryl and husband James Hughes of Delta, British Columbia.  He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, John Eric and Jessica Sherman, Samantha and Jayson Hughes and Jamie Hughes in Heaven (November 2016).

John was an avid gardener and car enthusiast and never met a dog he didn’t love on his after-dinner strolls wherever he happened to be at the time.

Family and friends will be received at McKinlay Funeral Home at 76 Main Street in Ridgetown, Ontario on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 2:00pm- 4:00 pm and 6:00pm - 8:00pm.

 A Funeral service will take place at the McKinlay Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 11:00am with a Remembrance of Life at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 243 in Ridgetown following the service.

Interment to follow after the legion at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Chatham, Ontario.
