A resident of Chatham, Regina Hoekstra passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus with family at her side on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at the age of 79.
Born in Wieringen, Westerland, The Netherlands, Regina was the daughter of the late Thoss and Eertsche "Esther" (née Hummel) Hoekstra.
Beloved wife of 56 years to Gerald Hoekstra.
Loving mother to Lori (Rick) Schnurr of Puslinch, Michelle (Dan) Rounding of Harrow, Jerry (Erin) Hoekstra of Merlin, Wanita (Johnny) Kostanjevec of Belle River and Danny (Missy) Hoekstra of Chatham.
Proud Beppe of Jonathan Kostanjevec, Isabelle Kostanjevec (fiance John Parks), Elizabeth Schnurr, Wade Schnurr, Campbell Schnurr, Thomas Schnurr, Justin Hoekstra (Hope), Dylan Hoekstra (fiancee Maddie Schatz), Dax Rounding, Austin Hoekstra and Savannah Hoekstra.
Dear sister to Audrey VanderWeide (Al), Dirk Hoekstra (Esther), the late Sjoukina Bailes (Frank) and Liz Colby (Bill).
Sister-in-law to Jack Hoekstra (Ann), Shirley Singor (Frank), Andy Hoekstra (late Millie), Tina Schenk (Pete), Bill Hoekstra (late Millie) Cecile Vanderveen (late Gerard), Sara Vreughdenhil (late Cor), the late Pete Hoekstra (Rolina), Billy Hoekstra (late Jean) and the late Mickey Hurst.
Predeceased by her nephew Joe Colby and niece Audrey Spaling.
Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Regina enjoyed her nursing career at Public General Hospital, especially her time working in palliative care.
She was an active member of First Christian Reformed Church, participating in the Sunday school, nursery, church plays and church groups.
Regina enjoyed being the hostess of many family get togethers and reunions. Regina was passionate about baking, cooking and sharing those skills and recipes with others.
Regina went back to nursing school after raising her children, demonstrating to her family that it is never too late to learn.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 6:00 - 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00am on Thursday, October 30, 2025 with Pastor Nate VanDenend officiating. Interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
