Obituary of Eric James Simpson

Simpson: Eric James -

A resident of Chatham Township, Eric Simpson passed away on November 6, 2025 at the age of 86. 

Born in Chatham, Eric was the son of the late Orin and Alice (née Patterson). 

He will be reunited with his late wife, Maxine Simpson (2022), with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Loving father to Heather Simpson.

Predeceased by his sisters, Lorraine Ferguson and Sharen Ransom.

Eric remembered his childhood in Dresden with great affection.  He always had stories of days gone by, recalling a time before many of the modern comforts we enjoy today.  A lifelong animal lover, he cared for several pets over the years, but his favourite was his horse, Chief, whom he loved riding to school.  As a teenager, Eric began developing his strong work ethic while helping in his family’s grocery store, Simpson’s Market.  He later went on to build a long and dedicated career at Motor Wheel.  Outside of work, Eric found joy in tending to his beautiful yard and garden, which he kept with the same care and attention that he brought to all areas of his life. 

A Private Family burial will be held in Dresden Cemetery.

Donations made in memory of Eric to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
