Obituary of Jim Reid

REID: James Henry

February 7, 1939 - November 13, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Henry “Jim” Reid on November 13, 2025, with his family by his side at the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

Born and raised in Chatham-Kent, Jim devoted 39 years of service to Chatham Hydro. He was a longtime member of Holy Trinity/St. Paul’s Anglican Church and was well known for his warm spirit, kindness, and steadfast reliability.

Jim was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marion Reid (née Butcher); his children Leigh Robert (Rob) and Kyle Reid (Alison); and his cherished grandchildren Amber Robert, Casey Robert (Sam Clark), Jake Reid (Maia Dixon), and Kaden Reid, as well as his great-grandson Silas Hallett-Robert. He is also survived by his sisters Nancy Bishop (Bob) and Carol Bonner, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Marilyn St. Pierre, with whom he shared a special bond.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Beulah Reid (Gillet); his sister Connie Longland; his brother Neilson Reid; nephews Brad Longland and Tim Clairmont; and niece Sherry Moody.

Jim found great joy in family gatherings, music of all kinds, a good card game, gardening, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. A dedicated bargain-hunter, he never missed his evening shows-Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. As an avid genealogist, Jim researched and documented extensive family history, tracing the Reid lineage back to its roots in England and Scotland.

Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family of Jim would like to say a very special thank you for the care he received at the London Cancer Clinic, to home palliative nurse Janelle, and to all the staff at Chatham-Kent Hospice.

Visitation will be held at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham, on Friday, November 21 from 10:00 am until the Memorial Service at 12:00pm. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at Arnold Cemetery, Louisville.

Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or to the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent or to Holy Trinity/St. Paul's Church.

A tree will be planted in his memory.
