Obituary of Dorothy Chapple

Dorothy Patricia Chapple (née Newberry) passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025.
Born the eldest of four to Samuel Gilbert (Bert) Newberry and Margaret Jane McDonald, Dorothy was predeceased by her siblings Robert (1979), Kathleen (2001) and Madeline (2008).
In 1940 Dorothy married John (Jack) Chapple, and in the following year they welcomed their son, Charles Allan Chapple. Dorothy worked with C&D Sugar and later Union Gas before she and Jack became snowbirds, spending winters in Florida. Jack preceded her in death in 2000. Dorothy never let age slow her down: she took a scuba lesson for her 85th birthday, enjoyed her last motorcycle ride at 100, and was still spending winters in Florida up until last year, proof she kept her sense of adventure well into her centenarian years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Charles Allan Chapple (Pat Black); her grandchildren Sherry Hiriart (Chris), Terry Chauvin (Rob Topping), and Mica Sadler (Jill), Christian Hiriart (Angela), Tania Apolito (Carmine), Ethan Chauvin (Brittany) and Avery Chauvin (Brenna); and by five great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was also treasured by many extended members of the Newberry, Chapple, Pritchard, Bathurst and Simpson families. As the last surviving member of her generation, she was quite literally the glue that held the branches of the family tree together!
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the exceptional staff of Riverview Gardens, 5 East, in Chatham for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 30th 2025 at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St. Chatham Ontario from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held the following day, Monday, December 1st at 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life on-site. Interment at Maple Leaf Cemetery will follow at 2:30. Please join us to celebrate Dorothy’s amazing life!
