Obituary of Clarence Egbert Floyd Steckley

Steckley: Clarence Egbert Floyd -

A resident of Thamesville, ON, and formerly of Bluevale, Clarence Steckley passed away peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Hospice on December 10, 2025, at the age of 80.

Born in Mornington Township of Perth East, Clarence was the son of Solomon and Ella (née Jantzi) Steckley.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Donna (Richard) Goerk and Duane (Stephanie) Steckley; and cherished by his grandchildren Tristan (Hannah), Taylor (Taylor), Alexsandra (Luke), and Cole (Katie).

Clarence is survived by his brother, Jim, and predeceased by his siblings Claire, Ezra, Arnold, Wayne, and Vicki.

A devoted participant in the W.A.M.B.O. community and a proud member of the East Kent Ridge Runners, Clarence took great joy in attending events with his beloved ’55 Ford-most recently Hotrods for Hospice in Ridgetown, ON, and the Wednesday night Coffee and Cars gatherings. He attended countless car shows alongside his brother Jim, enjoying time with friends and all of the cars. For many decades, Clarence operated C.F. Steckley Trucking and Bulldozing in Bluevale from 1967 to 1982; through hard work and dedication he continued the company name through long haul trucking from 1982 to 2005. Known for his warm presence and love of conversation, he could often be found sharing stories over coffee with friends old and new. His passion for landscaping and flowerbeds followed him to every home he owned, each one made more beautiful by his care and creativity. Clarence will be missed by all who knew him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and the Chatham-Kent Hospice for the exceptional care provided to Clarence.

Cremation has taken place and interment will happen at a later date.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation for Clarence on Saturday December 20th, 2025 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the McKinlay Funeral Home in Ridgetown at 76 Main Street East.

Donations made in Clarence’s memory to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
