It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jim “Mick” McLagan (James). A lifelong resident of Chatham, James passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 31st, 2025 at the age of 84.
Predeceased by his parents James McLagan II and Ruby McLagan (nee Spearman).
Loving Husband of predeceased Ruth Ellen “Rell” McLagan (2001) and predeceased Marilyn McLagan (2024). Both marriages were significant chapters in his life, and he cherished the years and memories he shared with each of them.
James will be dearly missed by his son Dave McLagan (Melanie). Dear Father to Lori McCorkle (Ken), Cheryl Lewis (Deryck), Brian Lawson and David Lawson.
Proud grandfather to Abegail McLagan, Connor McLagan, Kendra Deelstra (Mike), Mark McCorkle (Emily), Andrew McCorkle, Nathan Perry (Christina) and Cassidy Perry (Austin).
Proud Great Grandfather to Amelia, Memphis, Cameron, Teddy, Murphy, Kennie Lynn and predeceased by Clarke.
James will also be missed by his sister Gale McLagan. Predeceased by his younger brother John McLagan (2025).
James was a proud police officer with the Chatham-Kent Police Service for 31 years. He also served his country in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He had a passion for ‘the gab’; sharing a story to anyone he would meet. James’ love of travel extended throughout his life. From Scotland, Alaska, Hawaii and road trips around Canada and the United States. Woodworking was always a passion; making ‘sawdust’ in his Chatham shed or at the Florida Trailer Estates wood working shop as a snow bird.
We would like to give a special thanks to St. Angela's Meadow Retirement Home. He was grateful for fellowship with retired ‘sisters’, residents and staff.
Friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Saturday, January 3, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until Memorial Service time at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
Burial at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham at a later date.
Donations made in memory of James to the New Beginnings ABI and Stroke Recovery would be appreciated by the family.
