Obituary of Benjamin Douglas Lawton

Lawton: Benjamin Douglas "Ben" -

A resident of Pain Court, Ben Lawton passed away suddenly on Monday, January 5, 2026 at the age of 81.

Born in Raleigh Township, Ben was the son of the late Clarence and Lela (née Johnston) Lawton and cherished son-in-law to the late Vern and Rebecca Jubenville.

Beloved husband of 58 years to Becky Anne Lawton (née Jubenville).

Loving father to Celeste Lawton (Dave Wood), Ben and Andrea Lawton and Ashley and Marie Lawton.

Proud Pépé to Erin Lawton and Riley Lawton.

Survived by sister-in-law Barbara Lawton and many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Predeceased by his siblings and their spouses Eldon Lawton, Bev and Janet Lawton, Linda and John Uher, Dowie and Margie Lawton and John Lawton.

Also predeceased by his brother-in-law Terry and wife Evelyn Jubenville.

Born and raised on the family farm in Raleigh, Ben farmed both in Raleigh and Dover Township. He was also a truck driver.

Ben loved playing and watching sports, and particularly loved to reminisce about his time with the Pain Court Kings fastball team. Ben was a long suffering fan of many Detroit teams. He enjoyed attending and watching the horse and dog races. Ben could often be found ice fishing on the Thames.

Ben will be remembered for the love and dedication he had for his family.

Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 6:00 - 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00am on Friday, January 9, 2026. Interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Ben to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
