Obituary of Madge Story
Story: Madge Joanne (née Platschorre) -
It is with great sadness that the Story girls announce the passing of their beautiful mom, Madge Joanne Story (Platschorre), surrounded by her loving family, at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on May 2, 2026, in her 89th year.
Madge was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Suzanne (Overbeeke) Platschorre; her beloved husband, Richard “Dick” Story; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edwin and Eleanor Story.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kim Story, Jodie (Frank) Lucente and Cindy (Paul) Story-Riley, who were the pride and joy of her life. She was a cherished and proud Nana to Samuel and Michael Lucente, and Danica and Delaney Riley, who brought her endless happiness and whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Maatje was born in Kats, the Netherlands, in 1938, and immigrated to Canada with her parents after the war, settling into rural farm life in Elgin County.
Raised as an only child, she grew into a strong and independent young woman, helping her parents on the farm-caring for livestock and working tirelessly through planting and harvest seasons. Her dedication carried into her studies as she pursued nursing in Chatham, where she graduated as Valedictorian. While in Chatham, she met and fell in love with Dick, and they married, beginning a partnership rooted in love, laughter, and respect.
Over the years, Madge worked in various retail stores, where she enjoyed staying active and engaged in her community. She deeply valued her lifelong friendships and treasured the companionship, laughter, and shared memories they brought her throughout her life. She also had a great love for animals, especially her beloved dogs Missy and Sadie, who were constant companions and brought her much joy.
Madge leaves behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. Her kindness and quiet determination touched all who knew her.
Forever in our hearts.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for their compassionate care.
