Obituary of Genevieve (Genny) Owen
A resident of Ridgetown, formerly of Thamesville, Genevieve Owen (nee Bechard) passed away at the Village on the Ridge on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at the age of 91.
She was the daughter of the late Wilfred & Sophie (nee Antaya) Bechard.
Genevieve will be reunited with her late husband of 66 years, John Owen (2021).
Remembered always by her children, Susan Abray (Richard), Robert Owen (Teresa), Ken Owen (Betty), Linda Hills (Lee), Bill Owen (Penny) and Tim Owen.
Proud grandma of Carrie Gilroy, Gordon Claridge, Brad Owen, Scott Owen, Beverly Ellis, Amanda Legroulx, Brandon Owen, Jeremy Hills, MacKenzie O'Neil, Ashley Owen, Brandi Owen and great-grandmother.
Sister of Evelyn St. Pierre.
Predeceased by siblings, Margaret Countryman, Agnes Lozon, Louis Bechard, Paul Bechard, Rita O'Mara, Jean Morris, Mary Louise Provost and sister-in-law, Elsie Schmid.
Sister-in-law of Ron Morris.
Missed by many nieces, nephews & extended family.
Genevieve grew up in Pain Court on the family farm. With 7 sisters & 2 brothers, there was always something to harvest, cook or something to take care of. She married John and moved to Howard Township to start their family. Genevieve was a master cook, baker and gardener. She could take any leftovers and turn it into a beautiful and delicious meal. Everyone was always welcome to stay for supper as there was always plenty.
John & Gen had an active farm of animals and crops with a huge garden. They love to travel and Dad would come home from the travel agency to tell mom to pack her bags, they leave on Friday!
Gen had a kind demeanor, always willing to help anyone and loved family get together's.
Thanks to the staff of Village on the Ridge in Ridgetown and Maple City Retirement in Chatham for the excellent care she received.
A Private Family Service to take place with burial in Owen Cemetery.
In memory of Genevieve, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Chatham-Kent.
