Obituary of Elizabeth Dewar Davis

Elizabeth Dewar Davis -

In John 14:6 :

"Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life: no man comes to the Father, but through me.”

At the Chatham-Kent Hospice on June 10, 2026, Elizabeth Dewar Davis (Hall), went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, at the end of a long life, well-lived and richly blessed with purpose and meaning.

Elizabeth was born on October 12, 1930, to the late Frank and Florence Hall (Lewis) in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Elizabeth, will be lovingly remembered by her children: Janet (Tim) DeActis, Susan Mayhew and Jeffrey (Anita) Davis.

Elizabeth was blessed with seven grandchildren, Mark (Brianne) DeActis, Jeffery DeActis, Stephen (Natasha) DeActis, Patrick (Shannon) Rodgerson, Scott Rodgerson, Caroline (Jacob) Cowan and Kurt Davis. Her blessings continued with the birth of each great grandchild Myla, Connor, Nora, Nickolas, Mara, Ellie, Zoey, Mack, William and Kieran. 

Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Hugh Davis. Elizabeth is survived by her brother Jack Hall, sister Gwyneth Doty, and brother-in-law Bob Davis.

Elizabeth was a nurse for many years, loving her work in obstetrics. While living in Exeter, for over 67 years, she also had an unwavering desire to share Gods’ word with others. Her ongoing commitment to teach children: in Sunday School, assist in weekly Bible Club and participate in children’s summer day camps in her eighties, reflected this commitment. In retirement she saw a need and started the “Dove’s Nest”, a faith based not-for-profit thrift store in Exeter, Ontario. This store has continued, for over twenty years, to provide to the community along with regular financial contributions to local churches.

Elizabeth was a founding member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, in Exeter, a church that started from a weekly home bible study, in the early 60’s. Today, this vital community church, continues to grow and thrive, sharing Gods’ good news in the Exeter community.

In later years Elizabeth, enjoyed her television, especially sports! She was an avid Blue Jays fan, in addition to watching hockey, curling and golf. She also enjoyed old silver screen movies and puzzles.

The last seven years of her life have been happily lived in the retirement area at “ the Village on the Ridge”, in Ridgetown. It was here Elizabeth made wonderful new friends and where she was well supported and cared for by kind, supportive and caring staff.

Due to her failing health, and requiring more care, Elizabeth became a resident at the Chatham Kent Hospice. Elizabeth was blessed to find such attentive, understanding and compassionate care, at the end of her life journey from both Staff and Volunteers. The peaceful environment, at Hospice, was soothing and calming for both Elizabeth and her family. 

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of the Life of Elizabeth Davis will be held at the Emmanuel Congregational Church, Erie Street North, on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. with her family. Service of Celebration at 11 a.m., with
Pastor Bill Terris. Lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any donations be made to the Chatham Kent Hospice Foundation.
