Obituary of Willy Cammaert

In loving memory of Willy Ludovicuc Cammaert 90 years. Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, at Health Sciences with his loving family by his side.

Willy was born in Holland on October 21st, 1935, and at 12 years old, he immigrated to Canada with his parents, John and Rosalie Cammaert both predeceased.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife Anna (nee Mazan), and brothers Joseph, and Roger (Yvette also predeceased). Loving father of Rosemary Maki (husband Calvin) of Sudbury, and Lucien Cammaert of Espanola. Papa Willy to grandson Brandon Harris (Kendra) and step-grandson to Oliver Maki (Christina). Special great grandfather to Harvey. Survived by his sister-in-law Vera, cousins Walter Cammaert and Ria Van Raay (Bert), nieces Tanya Cammaert (Aaron), Jessica Cammaert, Michelle Funnell (Cory), and nephew Kevin Cammaert (Shelley).

Willy farmed all his life, along with his brothers and parents. They formed a Cammaert community, where they each had their farm and helped each other. Dad enjoyed life on the farm where he and Anna taught the kids what hard work was, and a family trip to Florida was made once crops were tended to.

Dad worked hard all his life providing for his family. He worked at the tobacco factory where he met his wife, Anna. From there, he worked at Motor Wheel, inspecting wheel rims in Chatham. For entertainment, he and mom would go to the dances every Saturday night at the Chatham Legion. They danced the night away with country and polkas. Dad loved music and polka dancing for years and took mom on trips to Frankenmuth, Michigan for the polka festivals to see Frankie Yankovic and Walter Ostanek. Willy also enjoyed fishing, ice fishing and perch were his favorite catch! He was involved in archery at the Chatham Legion. He looked forward to his visits at his favorite Tim Hortons, and even though he knew wrestling was fake, he enjoyed watching it on TV and sometime would take his family to live shows. He loved country music and his favorite singer was Charlie Pride. He would take the family to small concerts to see Charlie and other artists. Dad was a kind and gentle soul and full of life. He would give the shirt off his back to help someone. He was well liked by all and would always welcome you with a smile and a handshake. He had a soft spot for kids and pets.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff, nurses, PSW’s and doctors at Extendicare York – especially the 6th floor for taking such wonderful care of Willy during his most recent stay. Also thank you to the Manitoulin Lodge in Gore Bay, Manitoulin Island for their care, where Willy was a previous resident.

A private family funeral will be held at a later date. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium with burial alongside his wife in the Blenheim, Ontario.
