Schippers: John -
The man who loved to laugh, known to many as the Honey Man. John Schippers passed away at home on June 23, 2022 at the age of 73 .
Born in Enschede, Holland, John was the son of the late Jan and Jeltje Schippers. He immigrated from Holland in August 1966 at the age 18.
Husband of his honey for 49 years to Catharine (nee Schell).
Father to Douglas (Kirstyn), and Cindy (Scott). Proud grandfather to 4 grandsons- Brennen (Ruthy), Calob (Brooklyn), Kylar (Hayley) and Ashton. Survived by his brother Albert (Marlene). Brother-in-law to Froukje Schippers, Robert Schell, Ellen Ilman, Harry Schell (Shirley), Anna Hamilton (Hugh), David Schell (Marg) and Della Jezard. John will also be dearly missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
John always had to be busy, starting his work life as a farm worker, a construction worker and finally going to truck driving school and then proceeded to drive transport trucks for over 40 years. In his retirement years he was busier than ever. He started bee keeping and began making many honey related products. He loved meeting all the people at the Ridgetown Farmers Market and various craft shows. He joined the Morpeth Heritage Club, Ridgetown Horticultural Society and was a friend of Rotary (helped with steel collecting). John held various positions in the past at the Christian Reformed Church in Blenheim.
Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street E. Ridgetown on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Memorial Service to celebrate John's life will be held on Monday June 27, 2022 at the Blenheim Christian Reformed Church at 1:00 p.m. In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in memory of John to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, Ridgetown Horticultural Society, or the Ridgetown Rotary Club would be appreciated by the family.
