Obituary of Mary Devereux
Devereux—Mary Kathryn, age 66 (born July 24, 1958), headed off to be welcomed by beloved family and friends in Heaven on Friday, October 25, 2024.
Mary was raised and lived throughout her life on “the 7 th ”. Born to Margaret (nee Doyle, deceased 1987) and C. Glen Devereux (deceased 1991), she joined a busy household full of family and friends. The house where she was raised welcomed many. Mary continued that tradition—always welcoming people to sit down at a kitchen table where many stories and much discussion was had throughout the years.
Mary was “Aunt Mary” to many — whether family or friends, and “May” to many — whether friends or family. She was a younger sister to Peter (deceased 2021) and his partner, Donna, Paul and his wife, Karen, Jean and her husband, Jim Newman (deceased 2017), John (deceased 2012), and older sister, to Elizabeth (“Bridget”). May could do no wrong in Bridget’s eyes and May cared for Bridget as her own.
Mary was thrilled to be an aunt and is much loved by Kristen and Patrick Newman, Nicole Beuckelare (née Griffore-Devereux), Meagan Devereux, Ashley McLachlin (née Devereux) and Lori McDonald (née Devereux). She happily extended her role as aunt to their spouses and husbands, Wil Devine, Tanya Newman, Darren Beuckelare, Jeff MacDonald, Josh McLachlin, and Brodie McDonald, and then also to her great nephews and nieces, Bryson and Bennett Devine, Presley and Emmie Newman, Cadance and Maddux Beuckelare, Blake and Sloan McLachlin, and Tucker and Lane McDonald.
Mary will be fondly remembered by a number of close friends and by former clients for her hairstyling talents.
Mary provided a friendly ear to many throughout her life and was unfailingly loyal to family and friends to the end. Despite health challenges, each year at Christmas Mary made 100s of peanut butter balls to bestow upon friends, family and clients and always saved a few in the freezer in case someone needed a fix to get them through to next Christmas. Mary provided a home to Lucky, her beloved shih tzu, who somehow found his way to her on the 7th adopting her as his companion.
Mary’s family are grateful to those that provided care and support to her. She spoke of many of you with fondness and trusted you as friends. Thank you.
A private service will be held for Mary with interment at the North American Martyrs Cemetery, Wardsville. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, Community Living Chatham-Kent or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be left at www.mckinlayfuneralhome.com.
