What types of funeral and memorial services do you offer?
We provide a comprehensive range of services including traditional funerals, simple cremations, and Celebrations of Life. We also specialize in Mobile Services, allowing us to host services at unique venues—such as family backyards, community halls, or churches—rather than strictly within our funeral home facilities.
Where are your funeral homes located, and do you serve other areas?
We have three dedicated locations in Chatham, Blenheim, and Ridgetown. However, we serve the entire Municipality of Chatham-Kent and beyond. Through our mobile service capabilities, we can coordinate arrangements and services in the comfort of your own home or a venue of your choice.
Does McKinlay Funeral Home offer assistance with Estate settlement?
Yes. We understand that the paperwork following a passing can be overwhelming. Our Family Care Coordinator assists with critical tasks such as applying for CPP Death & Survivor Benefits, canceling Social Insurance Numbers and passports, notifying pension providers, and managing credit card cancellations to relieve the burden on your family.
Can I plan my funeral arrangements in advance?
Absolutely. We strongly encourage pre-planning to relieve emotional and financial stress on your loved ones. You can meet with our Pre-planning Funeral Director (in-person or online) to document your wishes. We offer pre-funding options via trust or insurance to lock in costs and guarantee that your specific wishes are carried out.
What is the "Guaranteed Travel Assurance Plan" (GTAP)?
For those who travel, we offer the GTAP. This lifetime coverage (available for a one-time fee) protects you if a death occurs more than 100km from home. It covers all costs and logistics for bringing the deceased back to our funeral home, including preparation and transport, ensuring your family faces no unexpected out-of-pocket expenses.
Do you offer "rush" or immediate services if a death occurs suddenly?
Yes. Our staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to urgent needs. If a death occurs at home or a care facility, please call us immediately. We will coordinate the transfer of your loved one into our care and guide you through the immediate next steps.
Do you support Body Donation (Bequeathal)?
Yes. We can facilitate body donation to science (typically to the University of Western Ontario) as an alternative to traditional burial or cremation. If accepted by the university, they cover many costs, though the family may still wish to hold a memorial service. We can help guide you through the suitability and registration process for this generous gift.
