Obituary of Thomas McLean Townsend

Townsend, Thomas McLean

Thomas McLean Townsend, a resident of Ridgetown and formerly of Windsor and Rondeau, passed away peacefully at the Village on the Ridge on January 8, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born in Windsor, Thomas was the son of the late Wally and Alma (née McLean) Townsend.

Thomas was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Melanie Townsend. He will be lovingly remembered by his son-in-law, Troy Ouellette; his cherished grandson, Declan Ouellette; his sister, Diane Mott (late Frank); and his niece and nephew, Heather Sleegers and Kevin (Kimberly) Mott.

Tom’s lifelong interest in electronics and computers led to a successful career in National Educational Sales, representing Apple, Dell, and Gateway Computers throughout Canada and the United States. He later became an avid photographer and a longtime member of the Chatham Camera Club, where he also served as president. Tom found great joy in capturing the simple beauty of nature through his lens.

Many of Tom’s fondest memories were rooted in his childhood summers at Rondeau, which eventually became his home. During his teenage years in the 1950s, he formed lasting friendships as part of the “Stable Gang.” Together, they helped care for horses and ponies, attended dances at the old Lakeshore Pavilion, and cheered on their favourites at the stock car races at Ruston’s Corners. These friendships endured for more than 70 years and remained a treasured part of Tom’s life.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Village on the Ridge for their kindness, compassion, and exceptional care. Your dedication made Tom’s final journey peaceful and comfortable, and it will always be remembered with gratitude.

Donations made in memory of Thomas to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
