Obituary of Joe "The Barber" Kloostra

Joe “The Barber” Kloostra

After a lengthy battle with cancer, Joe Kloostra entered into his life eternal with his loving Lord and Saviour, Jesus. Born on December 16, 1939, in Hantum, the Netherlands, to Walter and Aafke Kloostra, and later immigrating to Canada with the whole family in 1952.

Married for nearly 64 years to his loving wife Henny (Vanveller), they shared 4 children: Ron (Diana), Mark (Sharon), Steve (Jeni), and his “Peanut” Janice (Carl). Grandfather to Brad, Nick, Kirsten, Erik, Jarrod, Megan, Colin, Max, Jamie and Thompson, whom he loved dearly.

Joe is also fondly remembered by his brother Simon (Brenda) and sister Connie (Henk), and sister-in-law Christine (the late Bill). Predeceased by Seiger (Lena), Dick (Grace) and Bill (Christine).

Joe was a staple in the Chatham community, having been a barber for 45 years, a long time at 4th St. and Wellington. His children often heard people say, “Oh, you’re Joe the Barber’s kid!” But he was even more than that, he was a loving and faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He was a longtime member of First Christian Reformed Church in Chatham, where he served as an Elder and choir member. On his time off, Joe was often found near the golf course or helping his children with household DIY tasks. He gave to his loved ones until the end, and his love shone through as he entered heaven.
