It is with both sadness and gratitude for a life well lived that the family of Mervin and Marenah Michener announce their passing. After sharing over 70 years of marriage, devotion, and adventure together, Mervin passed away on January 6, 2026, at the age of 91, and Marenah followed on January 27, 2026, at the age of 87. Together once again, they leave behind a remarkable legacy of love, family, friendship, and service.

Mervin was born in Sarnia to Charles and Mable (née Underwood) Michener, while Marenah was born in Oil Springs to Leo Hartford and Evangeline Owen. Their journey together began more than seven decades ago and carried them across Canada and around the world.

They were devoted parents to their daughter Connie (Erwin) Wood and son Mark (Debbie) Michener. Loving grandparents to Nathan, Natalie, Bruce, and Timothy, they were also proud great-grandparents to Gavin, Silas, Ezekiel, Maverick, Johanna, Josie, Sydney, and Rorik, all of whom brought them immense joy.

Mervin is survived by his sisters Leta Poisson, Phyllis MacDonald, and Lillian Hartford, and his brother David Michener. He was predeceased by his sister Joyce. Marenah is survived by her sister Leona Rozell and sister-in-law Lillian Hartford and was predeceased by her sister Beulah and brothers Bryon, Orland, and Wayne.

As a career member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and intelligence officer, Mervin's service took the family across the globe. Together, Mervin and Marenah lived in Russia, France, Germany, Ottawa, Washington, D.C., and Florida, embracing each new community and forming lifelong friendships wherever they went. Mervin was respected for his dedication to his country, his leadership within the Masonic and Shriner organizations, and his enduring friendships through the Royal Canadian Legion.

Marenah's life was equally defined by service and compassion. Whether working as a telephone operator in Canada, at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, or at a hospital in Florida, she touched countless lives through her kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit. As the wife of a military serviceman, she created welcoming homes around the world and was a source of comfort and friendship to many military families.

Five years ago, Mervin and Marenah returned home to Ridgetown, where they enjoyed being close to family and friends. Their lives were a testament to commitment, resilience, hospitality, and the enduring strength of family.

The family invites relatives and friends to join them in celebrating the lives of Mervin and Marenah on Saturday, June 20, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m to 2:00p.m. at McKinlay Funeral Home at 76 Main Street, Ridgetown where memories and stories will be shared in honour of two lives beautifully lived together. A time of friends and light refreshments will follow immediately after the service at the Ridgetown Legion Branch #243 with Interment to follow at Burk Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Mervin and Marenah's memory are invited to cherish time with loved ones, extend kindness to others, and celebrate the enduring bonds of family and friendship that meant so much to them both.
