Obituary of Marilyn Handsor

Handsor: Marilyn  June (née Lucas) -

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Marilyn June Handsor (née Lucas) on Sunday August 30, 2026, at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance at the age of 83.

Marilyn was the beloved wife of the late Robert William Handsor, who passed away in 2022. Together, they farmed and built a loving home and life for more than 50 years. 

Marilyn lived in her own home for 54 years, a place filled with family, memories, and love. She was the cherished mother of Christopher and his wife Stacy; Shannon (née Handsor) and her husband Paul Evans; and Craig and his wife Shannon Handsor.

She was the immensely proud grandmother of Jordan, Kobe, Isaiah and  Justin Handsor and Rees and Carys Evans-her six grandchildren they were the  light of her life. Whether it was a track meet, hockey, soccer or lacrosse game, and every graduation, she would try to be there to support them.

Marilyn’s family brought her immeasurable joy, and she was deeply proud of each of her children and grandchildren. She was also known for being strong-willed and stubborn in the best sense-she knew what she wanted and was never afraid to let her family know.

She was predeceased by her parents, the late Chester and Alva Lucas, and her siblings Alma Carter and Donald Lucas.

Marilyn devoted much of her life to caring for others as a nurse, serving throughout the community at various locations, including Canadiana and Public General Hospital (PGH). Her compassion and generosity extended far beyond her profession. She was a treasured friend to many, remembered for her warmth, kindness, and beautiful smile.

A faithful and active member of Union Baptist Church and Prince Albert Church, Marilyn loved to sing. Whether sharing her voice at church or at weddings, music was an important part of her life. She also loved to dance or singing along with the radio.

Marilyn enjoyed game shows and cherished the simple pleasure of gathering with those she loved. Family dinners around the table were especially meaningful, often featuring some of her favourite foods: cheese, beets, pickles, Angel Food Delight, and spinach dip.

Marilyn had an amazing heart and a smile that could light up any room. Her family was her greatest joy, and the love she held for them was evident in all she did. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, music, family dinners, dancing, friendship, and love.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Continuing Care at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for the compassion and care they provided Marilyn during her final days.

Though she will be deeply missed, Marilyn’s beautiful spirit, loving heart, and unforgettable smile will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Family has invited friends to join them at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on September 3, 2026 from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm for visitation with a service to follow. Marilyn will be laid to rest with her late husband in Dresden Cemetery.
