It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stelio Joseph Bernardi. He passed away suddenly at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance - Chatham Campus on September 21, 2023 at the age of 86.
Born in Malio,Italy, Stelio was the son of Lodovico and Rosa (née Micori) Bernardi.
Beloved husband of 63 years to Gina (née Reganzin).
Survived and forever loved by his Daughter, Susan (Louis) Bernardi of Sarnia, ON and his Son, Oriano (Dana) Bernardi of Chatham, ON. Stelio will be remembered by his Brothers, Miro (Delia) Bernardi of Chatham, ON; Evelino (Graziela) Bernardi of Malija, Slovenia; along with his sister Danila (Orlando) Sergas of Trieste, Italy.
Forever in their hearts, Grandfather to three Grandsons, Robert Bernardi and Ryan Bernardi of Sarnia, ON, Adriano Bernardi and Granddaughter, Kendra Bernardi of Chatham, ON.
Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
He retired from International Harvester Truck Corporation (Navistar) after 30 years of dedicated service.
In his retired life he enjoyed traveling the world which included places such as Central America, South America, Europe, United Arab Emirates, and China.
Stelio was generous in nature with his time and with his hands. He was always willing to help anyone that needed his handyman skills, or words of advice. He loved spending time with his family and cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. He was a kind and thoughtful man whose selflessness and generosity was matched only by his capacity for his love of family.
He was a long time member of the Italian Lega Istriana.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00am on Friday, September 29, 2023.
Burial to take place at Maple Leaf Cemetery. A reception will follow at McKinlay Funeral Home in Chatham.
The family requests that donations be made in memory of Stelio to St. Agnes Church.
