Obituary of Byrne Allan Smith

SMITH, Byrne A.: A resident of Chatham, Byrne A. Smith died peacefully on Friday, December 29, 2006 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance at the age of 62. Born in Windsor, son of the late Maurice and Gwendolyn (Byrne) Smith. Beloved husband of Saundra (Erickson) Smith for 36 years. Loving father of Denean Smith (John Macuda) of Thamesville, and Dana Grocott (Dwayne) of Chatham. Devoted Papa of Brooklynn and Aislynn Grocott and Livya Macuda and predeceased by Lochlynn Grocott (2001). Son-in-law of Elg and Mary Erickson of Chatham. Brother of Helen Harper (Earl) of Arizona, CarolAnn Mackness (Dennis) of Chatham and the late Kathleen Virginia (Smith) French. Brother-in-law of Ike (Irwin) Erickson (Lynn) of Lighthouse Cove and Jerry Pateman (Laurie) of Tecumseh. Uncle of Michael Byrne Smith of Windsor, Meredith Erickson of Montreal, and Sarah Pateman and Jordan Pateman, both of Tecumseh. He will also be missed by "Babe the Dawg". Byrne retired from Navistar in 1999 and served in the U.S. Navy. He will be missed for his sense of humour, ability to entertain and his devotion to his family. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Monday, January 1, 2007 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Cremation with Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
