Obituary of Shigeru Sugiyama

SUGIYAMA: Dr. Shigeru. A resident of Chatham, Dr. Shigeru Sugiyama passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham on Monday, February 19, 2007 at the age of 75. Born in Vancouver, B.C., son of the late Chiyo Kageshita and Yasutaro Sugiyama. Beloved husband of Janet (Couture) Sugiyama for 27 years. Dear father of Robert Sugiyama of London, and Shigeru Michael Sugiyama and his wife Gwendolyn of Oshawa and grandfather of Stephanie Sugiyama. Brother of Tom and Noriko Miyagaki of Vancouver, Peter and Louise Sugiyama of Vancouver, Sally McNairney of Chatham, and May Stacho of Chatham. Brother-in-law of Gail Schnekenburger of Chatham, Doug and Lynda Couture of Chatham, Dennis Couture of Chatham, and Don and Cathy Couture of Chatham. Predeceased by his sisters Semiko Sugiyama and Toky Cosby, his brother Kiyoshi Sugiyama, brothers-in law Richard Cosby, Mickey McNairney, and Rudy Stacho, and sister-in-law Marjorie Couture. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Dr. Sugiyama was a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (1964) and was a Family Physician from 1965-1991. He also provided Locum and Emergency Service until his retirement in 1997. He will also be greatly missed by his four-legged girlfriend and constant companion, Cleopatra. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions in honour of Dr. Sugiyama to the Foundation of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance or the Canadian Cancer Society (Chatham-Kent Branch) or charity of choice would be appreciated.
