Obituary of Kathleen Elsie Sands

SANDS: Kathleen (Kay) Elsie. A resident of Copper Terrace and formerly of Gregory Drive, Chatham. Kathleen Sands passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the age of 90, with her two daughters at her side. Born in St. Catharines, daughter of the late Arthur and Amy (Buckell) James. Dear wife of the late Jack Sands (1974). Beloved mother of Peggy (Brown) Grimsteed and her husband Mark of Burlington, and Ginnie D’Hondt and her husband Ray of Chatham. Loving grandmother of David Brown and his wife Amanda of London, Julie Stoffyn and her husband Phil of Chatham, Paul D’Hondt and his fiancée Katie Edwards of London, and Colleen D’Hondt and her fiancé Mike Close of London. Cherished great-grandmother of Jordan Brown, Megan Stoffyn, and Jacob Stoffyn. Sister of George (Doris) James of Ingleside, Reg James of Chatham, and sister-in-law of Marjorie James of Chatham. Predeceased by her sister Margery Black, and her brothers Fred James, Howard James, and Roy James. Mrs. Sands was a telephone operator at Bell Canada and International Harvester. She was a volunteer at Public General Hospital for many years and was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church. She loved oil painting and music. Friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Sunday from 2:00-4:30 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. John Hodgins officiating. Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. Donations by cheque to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
