Obituary of Sylvia Stevens

STEVENS: Sylvia Alice (Edwards), A resident of Chatham, passed away quietly on Friday, May 4, 2007, at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance, at the age of 92. Born in England, daughter of the late Samuel John and Harriett Amelia (Coward) Edwards. Loving wife of the late Carson Stevens (1976). Beloved mother of Robert Carson and his wife Kristen of Chatham. Sylvia will be sadly missed by her grandsons Philip and Craig Stevens. Also survived by brothers Leslie Edwards and his wife Joyce, and Claude Edwards and his wife Irene, nieces Lizabeth McIntosh-Parr ( Ian), Wendy Matthews (Dave), all of England, Mary Ann Alexander of Komoka, Betty Zimmer of London, Alma Yott (Lorne), Lorraine Bedford (Claire), and Joan Labombard all of Chatham. During the Second World War, Sylvia did war work in London and was the sole survivor when her assigned bomb shelter took a direct hit. Following the war in 1946, Sylvia, a war bride, traveled to Canada from England on a hospital ship and settled with her husband, Carson, in Chatham, where she lived happily in her adopted country. Sylvia's family would like to thank Dr. Stronks for his excellent care and kind words, Dr. Brisbin and the very compassionate staff of Progressive and Intensive Care at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance. A Private Family Memorial Service will take place at a later date. Memorial donations made by cheque to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Chatham Kent Community Foundation are welcomed at the Funeral Home, 459, St. Clair Street, Chatham.
