Obituary of Madeleine Florence Layson

LAYSON: Madeleine Florence, A resident of Chatham, formerly of Essex and as of late Corunna; Surrounded by her loving family, Madeleine Florence (Stevenson) Layson went to be with her Lord, on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the age of 91. Born June 26, 1916, in Maidstone, Ontario to the late James & Hannah (Shepley) Stevenson. Beloved wife of the late Alfred Edward Layson (1999). Cherished mother of Ann Lynne & James Currie of Corunna, Glennalee & John Hatch of London, and Lu-Ann “Cork” & the late Paul Cowell (2000) of Chatham. Proud and loving Grandma of Stephen and Shannon Cowell & Josh and Jared Berman. Adoring Big Grandma of Nathaniel, Skylar, and Carson. Madeleine is survived by her “special” children Cindy, Mark, and Ryan Weaver, Barbara Mason, Judi Currie, and Shawna Molinaro. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She is predeceased by her brothers Glenn Stevenson, Everette Stevenson, and her sister Beatrice Holden. Madeleine retired from the Kent County Board of Education in 1981 as the secretary of McNaughton Avenue Public School. Her greatest passion was her family. She was a wonderful, loving, and caring Mother, Grandma, and Big Grandma. The family of Madeleine Layson will receive friends at the funeral home, 459 St. Clair St. Chatham, on January 7, 2008 from 2:00-4:30 p.m. & 7:00-9:00 p.m. A celebration of Madeleine’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 from the funeral home with Donna Green officiating. Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery to follow.
