Obituary of Gordon E. Hoorelbeck

HOORELBECK: Gordon E., a resident of Port Lambton, Gordon Ernest Hoorelbeck, age 64, died at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance-Sydenham Campus, on January 26, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. Gordon was born August 10, 1943 in Leamington, ON, and is the son of Marie (Jones) & the late Joseph Hoorelbeck (1982). Gordon served 32 years as a fireman with the Chatham-Kent Fire Department, having retired as Captain in 1999. He also owned and operated a successful lawn care business, Bobby Lawn Care, for many years. Gordon loved life, reading, enjoyed boating, vacationing in Florida, and being with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years Janet (Stewart) Hoorelbeck, his daughters Joanne Lindsay & her husband Mark, Doreen Woods & her husband Blake, and his son Mark Hoorelbeck & his wife Jaqueline. He will be missed by 9 grandchildren: Emily, Rachel, Sarah, Joshua, Colin, Tanner, Janet, Stephanie and Michael all of Chatham. Gordon is also survived by his brother Don Hoorelbeck (June) of Wallaceburg, brother in-law Lyle Stewart (Marilyn), sisters in-law Carolyn Morden (Gerald), Lorna Giffin (Lyle), and Ardythe Henderson (Don). He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham, on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 2:00-4:30 p.m. & 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 from the Funeral Home with Pastor Gord Reynolds officiating. Inurnment to follow in Maple Leaf Cemetery. In kindness, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. His passing has left us with heartfelt sorrow. He was a man of great strength and inspiration; a source of laughter, joy and wisdom. He enriched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
