MAKOWETSKY: Eileen. A resident of Vita, Manitoba in her early years, and later, for many years in Chatham, Eileen Makowetsky passed away at John Joseph Place, Owen Sound on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the age of 88. Born in Rock Lake, North Dakota, daughter of the late Gawril and Verna (Kosowan) Bozyk. Beloved wife of the late John Makowetsky (1974) for 34 years. Dear mother of Adele and husband Michael Pizycki of Blairsville, Georgia, Myrt and husband Bob Heinrich of Owen Sound, and Dennis and wife Betty Jean Makowetsky of Blenheim. Grandmother of Lara Pizycki of Spokane, Washington, Monica Heinrich-Verhoeve and husband Mike of Waterloo, Erich and wife Lisa Heinrich of Wiarton, Mike and wife Anne Marie Duval of LaSalle, and Don Duval of Toronto. Great-grandmother of Mya Verhoeve, Marly Verhoeve, Alex Heinrich, Sophie Heinrich, and Julia Duval. Sister of Doris Prygrocki of Winnipeg, Nestor and wife Vi Bozyk of Vita, Manitoba, Myrtle Osachuk of Winnipeg, Sonya Grier of Woodmore, Manitoba, and the late Rita Salavich, Luba Onysko, and Victor Bozyk. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Always an advocate of women, children and families, Eileen served for years as President of the Local Council of Women and the Provincial Council of Women of Ontario for two terms. Her community service interests saw her volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels. As President of the Women’s Auxiliary and Executive member of her Church for many years, she worked tirelessly to promote the efforts and enthusiasm of the congregation within the community. Her hobbies included gardening and, listening to and performing choral music. For more than twenty-five years, she worked faithfully as a ward secretary in the Pediatric Department of St Josephs Hospital. A Prayer Vigil will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday from 7:00-7:30 p.m. Visitation will follow at the Funeral Home from 7:30-9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held from St. John The Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 39 McNaughton Ave. W., Chatham on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
