Obituary of Marion Kirkwood

KIRKWOOD: Marion Geraldine A resident of Chatham, formerly of Tillsonburg (Hickory Hills), Thunder Bay and Windsor, Marion died at Copper Terrace Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, daughter of the late Foster Campbell and Mary (Minnie) Gertrude (Holder) Geizer, Marion married her handsome sailor, John Gordon Kirkwood, who predeceased her on December 7, 2005, also at the age of 87 years. Marion is survived by daughters Karen Kirkwood-Whyte and husband Rob of Chatham, Pat Halverson of Lampman, Saskatchewan and son, Kent of Newmarket. Sister of Arthur Geizer, Nan Geizer (both deceased) and Nita and husband Will Harvey of Halifax. Dear grandmother of Wendy (McLaren) Chappus and husband Mark of Chatham, Blake Halverson of Port of Newcastle, Jessie Kirkwood of Hawaii and Mike Kirkwood of Newmarket. Loving great-grandmother of Trent and Kennedy Chappus of Chatham. Also survived by nephews, Stan Harvey and Donald Harvey and their families and niece, Jeanne and husband Robert Hubley. Marion attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and received various diplomas in fine art and design. A talented craftswoman, Marion was proficient in calligraphy, ceramics and many other artistic endeavours. A stay-at-home mother and wife, Marion spent many hours volunteering for her local churches in Windsor, Thunder Bay and Tillsonburg as well as sharing her love of community with local foodbanks and other social service organizations. A talented seamstress, Marion also assisted her husband, Gordon, with set decorations and costumes for various little theatre productions over the years. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Gordon Reynolds of Gregory Drive Alliance Church . Cremation with interment, at a later date. Donations to United Way of Chatham-Kent for the Kirkwood Family Fund would be greatly appreciated. Interest on the Kirkwood Family Fund is used to cover maintenance and insurance fees for the miniature United Way Building in the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village and other projects undertaken by the local United Way.
