Verkaik: Maurits “Michael” It is with profound sadness that the family of Michael Verkaik announce his sudden passing in Cabos San Lucas, Mexico on January 16, 2009 at 64 years young. Born in the Netherlands son of the late Maurits (Mike) (2005) and the late Geertruda “Gertrude” (2008).Loving husband and best friend of 15 years of Sandra Verkaik (Benoit). Beloved father of Jeanette Moore (Colin Holmes), Janice Benoit (Ray McIntyre) and Darryl Benoit and his wife Tammy. Proud grandfather of Shawn, Karly, Michael, Jordan, Christopher, Kayla and Dylan and great-grandfather of Kyra. Brother of John & Barb Verkaik of Chatham, Mary Ann Dykema and her husband Wayne of Pt. Edward, Pauline Glassford and her husband George of Chatham, Henry Verkaik and his wife Tena of Chatham and Gary Verkaik & Trish of Chatham. Mike will also be dearly missed by his faithful four-legged companion Jesse. Predeceased by his brother Harry Verkaik (1997). Words are mere symbols that point to a greater meaning. All the necessary words escape the Verkaik family in describing their love and their loss. Mike was a hard working, kind and loving person who will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him. Mike owned and operated Quality Pools & Spas of Chatham. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham on Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 2:00-4:30 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the First Reformed Church, 632 Lacroix St., Chatham on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Peter Burrill officiating. Cremation to follow with interment at Maple Leaf Cemetery at a later date.
