Obituary of Maurice Joseph Neutens

Neutens: Maurice Joseph, a resident of Ridgetown. Maurice J. Neutens passed away after a long, fulfilling life, on Sunday March 1, 2009 at the Village Nursing Home, Ridgetown. Born in Belgium in 1910, came to Canada in 1915, son of the late Adiel & Eugenia (Naessens) Neutens. Husband of the late Mary (VanLeirsberghe) Neutens (1992). Beloved father of Eleonora & Jake Mieras, Chatham; the late Henry (2009) and Peg Neutens, Ridgetown; Jim & Mary Neutens, Knoxville, Tenn. Sadly missed by grandchildren Jan and Janet Mieras, Carol Mieras, Yola Oczkosky; Mary Margaret and Fraser Heatherington; Jon and Kim Neutens, Michael Neutens; Elizabeth and Emily Neutens. Adored by great grandchildren Jacob, Kelly, Karl, Khyrsten, Kelsy, Benjamin, Grace, Matthew, Ethan, Ronan and Rebecca. Dear brother of Elsie Lucio, Ridgetown and Evonne Bulckaert, Chatham. Predeceased by brothers-in-law Joseph Lucio and Bennett Bulckaert and sisters-in-law Veronica Benn and Lena Goens. Maurice first owned a trucking business. He was one of the original founders of Kent County Fertilizers, was an ardent supporter of the Plant Food Council, Fertilizer Institute of Ontario and the Canadian Fertilizer Institute. He promoted the use of commercial fertilizers to his customers by service and agronomic advice. Maurice received the TFIO Award of Merit in 1984. He was chairman of the St. Michael’s Catholic School Board and a trustee on the Ridgetown District High School Board, and a faithful supporter of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Friends will be received at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main St.,E., Ridgetown on Tuesday March 3, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. Parish Prayers will be offered at the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ridgetown on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Martin Johnston celebrant. Interment St. Michael’s Cemetery. Donations in memory of Maurice to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Chatham Kent Health Alliance MRI Fund would be appreciated.
