Obituary of Glenn Nathaniel Merritt

A resident of Chatham, Glenn Merritt passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of the late Marguerite Phyllis (Blonde) Merritt. Loving father of Marvin Merritt and his wife Lenore of Pain Court, Judy Chambers and her husband Brian of Chatham, Nancy Mardling and her husband Phil of Chatham and Les Merritt and his wife Janice of Chatham. Proud grandfather and great-grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Survived by his sister Shirley Spurgeon of Chatham. Predeceased by his brother Ward Merritt and his great-grandson Connor. Glenn was born and raised in Chatham, and lived in the area all of his life. He proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. Glenn was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church and an honourary member of the Chatham Yacht and Racing Club. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Sunday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 2:00-4:30 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 180 Wellington Street West on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Thomas Anglican Church Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Glenn to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Restoration Fund would be appreciated by the family.
