Obituary of Anton R. 'Tony' Wanner

WANNER: Anton Ralph ‘Tony’ – A resident of Chatham, Tony died on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance, at the age of 86.Born in Lampman, Saskatchewan to the late Jacob & Rosa (Muller) Wanner. Beloved husband of Thelma (Engel) Winkler and predeceased by his first wife Mary (Molly) Wanner (1980). Step-father of Jamie Winkler (Myra) of Chatham and Susan Sharp (Brad) of Sombra. Grandfather of Nathan (Janine), Carrie (Joe), and Mitchell and great-grandfather of Tyler, Jordan, Benjamin and Emma. Tony was the last surviving member of a family of ten, he is predeceased by 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Tony served overseas from 1942 – 1946 with the Royal Canadian Army Perth Regiment. He was cabinet maker with various furniture manufacturers and was also a teacher with the Grey County Board of Education (John Diefenbaker Secondary School) in Hanover. Tony was a member of the Central Freedom of Mineralogical Society. One of Tony’s passions was the time spent with friends playing pool and trading jokes and stories at his home away from home, the Active Lifestyles Centre. Friends are invited to join Tony’s family on Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. for a time of fellowship and remembrance at the Active Lifestyles Centre, 20 Merritt Ave, Chatham. Cremation has taken place with a private family graveside memorial service to take place in Hanover Cemetery at a later date. Donations made in memory of Tony to the Active Lifestyles Centre or Canadian Cancer Society are welcomed and appreciated by the family.
