Obituary of W. Glen Pickering

PICKERING: W. Glen. A resident of Blenheim, Glen Pickering passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham on Monday, May 25, 2009 at the age of 85. Born in Blenheim, son of the late Carl and Jessie (Jackson) Pickering. Beloved husband of Barbara (Belanger) Pickering for 50 years. Dear father of Robert Pickering and his wife Angela of Blenheim, Janice Pickering of Blenheim, Bruce Pickering and his wife Diana of Windsor, Glenna Pickering and her spouse Mark North of Chatham, Carla Doan and her husband Jim of Blenheim, and the late Wayne Pickering (1973). Step-father of 2, and predeceased by step-daughter Diane St. Pierre (2008), and step-son Ronnie Brundritt (1958). Grandfather of 17 and great-grandfather of 14. Brother of Gerald Pickering of Blenheim, the late Elmer Pickering, Norman Pickering, Melvin Pickering, and Ray Pickering. Brother-in-law of Edith Durfy of Blenheim, Jackie Pickering of Blenheim and also survived by several nieces and nephews. Glen was a Veteran of WWII and served in the Armed Forces in Goose Bay. He was a member of "The Whippoorwills" band for many years where he played the stand-up bass and guitar. Glen also loved to call Square Dances. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bruce Cook of Blenheim United Church officiating. Cremation with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim. Donations in Glen’s honour to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or charity of choice would be appreciated.
