Obituary of Albert Peterson

PETERSON: Albert. Albert Peterson died in Chatham, Ontario with his family by his side on September 27th, 2009 in his 92nd year. Born on June 15th, 1918 in St. Andrews, Manitoba, one of 12 brothers and sisters. He married Doris Paulina Hayes December 27th, 1941. She predeceased him on July 3rd, 2006 after celebrating 65 years of happy marriage. Al is survived by his three children and their spouses Ken & Bev of Lethbridge, Alberta, Gerry & Sharon of Chatham, and Ron Peterson of the Beaches, Toronto. He will be missed by his 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Al joined the RCAF in 1941 completing his service in 1945 as a flight lieutenant, having flown coastal patrol from both coasts. He joined the Eddy Match Company of Canada in Mission, B.C. as clean-up man and retired 36 years later as Vice-President of Manufacturing in Pembroke, Ontario. During his working career he found time to start Air Cadet Squadrons in Mission, B.C., and Pembroke, Ontario, he became president of the Pembroke Golf Club, a member of the Alcoholism & Addiction Research Council, and served as a board member for the Steel Equipment Company of Canada and Canadian Splint. After his retirement, Al completed projects in the developing countries of Belize and Guyana and gained recognition from the L.A. Times and the Canadian Executive Service Organization. Through failing health in recent years, the staff of Riverview Gardens Nursing Home, Chatham have grown to know and love this unique individual. His family is eternally grateful for the gentle kindness exhibited by all. At Al’s request cremation has taken place.
