Obituary of William Sifton

SIFTON: William R. A resident of Ridgetown, and formerly of Palmyra, William Ruthven Sifton passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Chatham Campus on Wednesday November 4, 2009 at the age of 93. Beloved husband of Margaret J. (Houston) Sifton (2009). Dearly loved father of Don & Katie Sifton, Jim & Anne Sifton, and Bonnie & Steve Walsh. Special grandfather to Melanie Sifton (Ben Willis), Rob Sifton (Leah Scott), Scott Sifton (Lauren Bartholomew), Heather & Strahan McCarten, Michael & Ramona Walsh, and Erin Walsh (Tom Hughes). Proud great grandfather of Joshua and Lara Walsh, and Maggie McCarten. Predeceased by his sister Margaret Dewdney (2008). Bill was a former farmer and agriculturist with a love for gardening and tree planting. He was a member of Highgate Masonic Lodge,the Mocha Shrine, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #243 and a long time member of the Ridgetown Golf and Curling Club. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Friday November 27, 2009 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 Noon. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 Noon at the Funeral Home followed by a reception at the Ridgetown Canadian Legion. Private family interment of cremated remains in Trinity Cemetery, Howard Township. Donations in memory of Bill to the Foundation of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Trinity Church Cemetery or the Palmyra Community Fund would be appreciated.
