VERBEEM: John Joseph. Peacefully at his daughter's home in Morpeth, on Friday, March 26, 2010, with his family and devoted "Kitty" by his side, John Joseph Verbeem, formerly of R.R.#6 Dresden passed away in his 87th year. Born in Zeeland, The Netherlands, John was the son of the late Engelbertus and Elizabeth (Thysse) Verbeem. John came to Canada 85 years ago and worked at International Harvester for 30 years until his retirement in 1982. Surviving him are 2 daughters, Mary Beth Myers of Morpeth and Kim Maier of Chatham; 3 sons, Larry and his wife Mary Lynn of Chatham, John and his wife Mary Ann of Blenheim, and Ken and his wife Kim of R.R.#6 Dresden; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grand-daughter. Brother of Mary Sevigny of Chatham, Helen Gordon of Chatham, Coba Libbrecht of Kent Bridge, Nellie Rockx of Tillsonburg, and Gill Verbeem of Chatham. Predeceasing him are his wife Simone (1993), daughter Connie Shaw (1982), son George (1982), and brothers Ernie, Pete, and Adrian. John was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1412, Chatham. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Monday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Vigil will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday evening with prayers at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 145 Victoria Ave., Chatham on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Bombardier the Celebrant. Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery, Chatham. Donations in John's honour to Outreach for Hunger would be appreciated.
