Obituary of Jerry Pokornik

POKORNIK: Jerry John. A resident of Blenheim, Jerry Pokornik passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 25, 2010 while vacationing on Manitoulin Island at the age of 79. Born in Chatham, son of the late Frank and Bessie (Micka) Pokornik. Beloved husband of Shirley (Paling) Pokornik of 57 years. Cherished and deeply respected father of Tom Pokornik (Christine) of Erieau, Sherry and Peter Burri of Blenheim, and Lisa and Chris Stone of Blenheim. Dearly loved grandfather of Dan Pokornik (Denise), Mike Pokornik, Brad Pokornik, Alaina Stone (Mike), Mitch Burri, Heather and Heidi Stone. Proud great-grandfather of several great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Henry and Phyllis Pokornik of Blenheim, Frank and Olga Pokornik of Ottawa, and Mary and Doug Goodison of Erie Beach. Dear brother-in-law of Virginia and Raeburn Smith of Manitoulin Island. Also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Jerry worked in the tool and die trade for many years and owned and operated The J.P. Toolroom in Blenheim until his retirement. He enjoyed family vacations on Manitoulin Island, playing and fixing button box accordions, and most of all, his volunteer ministry. He touched so many lives and will be dearly missed by the Blenheim Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he tirelessly served as a respected elder for over 50 years. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Friday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at the Blenheim Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 353 Talbot St. East, Blenheim on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Mr. Ken Little of Georgetown officiating.
