Obituary of Betty Rumo-Unternahrer

RUMO-UNTERNAHRER: Betty - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Betty on Thursday August 12, 2010 surrounded by her family at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus. A long time resident of Ridgetown she lived for over forty years on the Scane Sideroad in her beloved school house, remaining there against the odds after the passing of our father Fred in 1998. She was happiest when outside and she lovingly maintained a large vegetable garden and numerous flower beds up until her last year at the house. As a result of declining health, she had recently moved to the Village Retirement Home, but deeply missed her home and gardens. Born in Marly-le-Petit Fribourg, Switzerland in 1927, she immigrated to Canada in 1951 with our father and oldest sister leaving behind her mother, brother and many aunts, uncles and cousins instigating a life long passion for letter writing. Our family eventually settled in the Ridgetown area in 1968 where mom found work at the Barnwell Nursing Home and joined the Women's Institute. Her passion for reading and keeping up with current affairs made her life interesting for herself and those she kept in contact with. There was always something new to talk about with mom. Beloved wife of the late Fred Unternahrer (1998). Dear mother of Doris and her husband Rolf Bittner of Omemee, Edith and her husband Mike Thiesen of Windsor, Susan St.Hilaire and her late husband Colville St Hilaire(2007) of Cheltenham, and Fred Unternahrer and Patty Salisbury of Sombra. Brother of Michel Rumo (Denise) of Fribourg, Switzerland. Proud Grandmother of James, Melissa, Marcia, Brian, Leigh, Adrienne, Matthew, Benjamin, Jason and Nathan and Great Grandchildren McKennah and Anderson. We would like to thank everyone who was a part of her life and gave so generously of their time and attention during the final years of her life. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street E., Ridgetown on Friday, August 20, 2010 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be conducted at the Funeral Home on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Bill Terris of the Blenheim Baptist Church officiating.
